What do I do if my roof is leaking?

1. Don’t panic
2. Clear the area (move children, pets and important belongings)
3. Contain the water (protect floor damage with buckets, towels, bowls)
4. Relieve water pressure (if required, poke a hole in any small sagging ceiling bulge only if safe to do so, with a screwdriver, handle etc)
5. Make some calls (SES if entire roof collapse, then insurer, then plumber to schedule in investigation and repair when safe to do so)
6. Tarp the roof (when the roof is dry, only with appropriate PPE and experience)

How do you prevent damage from roof leaks?

– Keep your gutters, drains and downpipes clear

– Have small leaks, broken roof tiles etc rectified immediately

– Always have home and contents insurance (contents only for renters)
