Frequently Asked Questions

We’re transparent with our quotes so our clients don’t get any rude shocks come bill time. You’ll either know EXACTLY what a plumbing job costs with a fixed price service (like a new toilet installation or fridge water connection point) or you’ll be given our hourly rate and incremental 15min block rates (for unblocking drains, roof leak investigations etc). For more information on our costs and how we get to that amount, have a read here.

Why is it that when a plumber advertises $0* call out fee they always have that cheeky little asterisk next to the 0? It’s because they are misleading their clients…

We get asked the question on a daily basis ‘Do you charge a call out fee?’ and our answer is always ‘Yes’. Our call out fee also includes the first 30 mins of work onsite. We try and educate these callers on why we charge a fee, and that those plumbers who say there is no fee aren’t volunteers; they will charge you for their time spent there even if they say no call out fee.

How? They use that time to get their foot in your door, sell their overpriced wares and quote your works including their pre-calculated overheads for visiting you ‘cost free’.

Plumbers are not visiting their clients for free; they have bills to pay, fuel to buy, overheads to cover etc. They WILL be charging you for that time spent getting to your home and diagnosing your plumbing problem. They just choose to market it as $0*, rather than be transparent with their pricing. Read more about it here.

Yes we do. We offer aged care pensioners a 10% discount on our labour costs (not materials). You will need to let us know during the booking process if you are a pensioner, not after the invoice has been issued. Have a read here for more information.
We are also APOD (Australian Partners of Defence) partners and offer a discount to service veterans through their website or upon mentioning this program upon booking.

We are open on weekends and public holidays for emergency plumbing services only. We update our hours on google each public holiday and will inform our clients via this method if we are unable to open. Unsure whether your plumbing job is an emergency? The most common reasons for blocked drains include these un-flushable objects like food waste, hair, dirt, tree roots, small objects and minerals. McCarthy Plumbing Group have talented plumbers who can unblock, clear, cleanse and install drains in your home whenever you need it.

Here are some simple tips on how to avoid blocking the drains that are in your home! (We want less blocked drains in Point Cook and the surrounding areas too!)

– Be sure to keep food and grease out of your kitchen drains. This can be done by disposing food scraps in the appropriate bins or compost before putting dishes in the sink.

– Avoid hair entering drains, both of the human and fur baby variety! Monitoring your floor before and after use is key whilst picking up any hair to avoid it making its way to a drain. If you’re washing a dog in a bath it’s handy to place a small towel on top of the drain to catch any loose fur or install a mesh covering over the drain.

– Monitor what is being flushed in your household. Toilets are for toilet paper and human waste, flushing anything else is likely to cause blockages and/or clogging. It’s always handy to keep a small rubbish bin by your toilet and in the bathroom to dispose of anything else.
