All I Want for Christmas is a Pastel Coloured Basin… 2024 Plumbing Trends
2024 Plumbing Trends
I’ve co-owned a plumbing business for ten years now (it was our anniversary this year), and in that time have seen some of the most luxurious fixtures and fittings that I didn’t ever need but now really, absolutely want in my life. Our plumbing work on high-end boutique builds combined with watching The Block religiously for more than a decade has only added items to my list of most desired plumbing items for my home.
I thought writing a plumbing Christmas gift guide for 2023 (AKA my top 2024 plumbing trends) may give a certain plumber in my life a few hints on adding some affordable luxury to our home.
So here I’ll sleigh it loud and proud, my Plumbing Christmas gift guide for 2023:
On the First Day of Christmas my True Love Gave to me, a Zip HydroTap in Brushed Chrome
I’ve been hinting for one of these babies for a few years now, and my grinch husband gives me the same response each year “Get yourself one then”. He calls my bluff and knows me too well; I don’t want to pay between $2,000 and $8,000 for a glorified kettle. A very stylish, luxe, practical and completely desired-by-me glorified kettle that is.
The big boss, our Client Relationship Manager Kathy, has had one installed in her home recently by one of the guys, and even she says the jury is out with if they are worth the investment.
I think I’d take the plunge with one if I wanted the basic model but, alas, in true diva style I only want one if I can get the top of the range HydroTap, the all-in-one boiling, chilled AND sparkling filtered water model. And she be nearly $8,000… which is a LOT of kettles and SodaStreams.
Not for me this year Zip HydroTap, but I’ll continue to live vicariously through our clients who we install them for. And I’ll continue to buy a weekly lotto ticket from the guys at Sanctuary Lakes Lucky Lotto so I can get my precious one day.
I’ll Have a Blue, Blue, Blue, Blue Christmas Without a Blue Basin
Or teal. Or pastel pink. I haven’t quite made up my mind yet, but all I know is that I LOVE coloured basins. They make a bathroom pop! They add excitement, personality and creativity and are very on trend in 2023. The ones from Bramstone are so lush and pastel and incredibly fun.
Will a coloured sink age a bathroom faster? Potentially. In 15-20 or so years coloured sinks probably won’t be on trend anymore (however bathrooms are usually renovated every 20 years anyway). Although, they may very well get a revival à la bushy eyebrows and 90’s fashion (I wish I kept my old snap pants and halter necks…).
Coloured basins are a more cost-effective plumbing statement piece when compared to the Zip HydroTap, with above-counter coloured basins available from about $300. However custom Bramstone designs start from about $895… I’ll keep dreaming.
Fairytale of New Kitchens
Are the tech sinks from the videos on TikTok more your vibe? Reece have a Franke Sink with a Prep Centre that will be the hero of any kitchen. They may cost you $2,500 to purchase, but surely you’d save in Uber Eats costs if you had this handy prep station when making your dinner?
Have yourself a Merry Little Pot Filler
Another piece of affordable luxury plumbing is the Pot Filler. Pot Fillers are pull out kitchen taps installed directly above your stove for instant accessibility (and absolute convenience).
These fixtures are particularly handy for the elderly, those with a disability, arthritis or people who use large pots and just don’t have the strength to carry it from their kitchen sink to their stove full of water.
It’s another great statement piece for your home, and immediately elevates the opulence of your kitchen.
Pot Fillers (also known as pasta arms and kettle faucets) are reasonably priced from $270 plus installation costs, and were recently controversially featured on channel nine’s The Block. Foreman Keith had concerns about what would happen should the tap be left on, however there are currently no regulations regarding the installation of these fixtures from the Victorian Building Authority, however they do ask that consumers exercise caution.
I’m Dreaming of a Matte White Massage Shower
No appointments available at Endota Spa? No room outside for a swim spa? Have you ever considered a shower tower with massage jets? No, neither had I before today, but the idea of an essentially vertical spa does sound appealing.
Tradelink sells the Verso all-in-one shower tower and claims it to be more than just a shower. Sophisticated, streamline and luxurious with multiple shower functions and body massage jets and a built in soap dispenser. Handy.
Shower towers are becoming more and more popular in Melbourne, and our plumbers have installed shower towers in homes across Melbourne’s West for our clientele chasing a sleek and modern bathroom.
They are striking enough for me to never sleigh never to getting one of these installed at my place for Christmas.
It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year to Install a Fridge Water Connection Point
Gin and Tonic without ice? Snow thanks! I’m prone to a tipple of Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz or Christmas gin this time of year poured over tonic water and served with a big ol’ bougie round ice cube. My Kmart ice block mould works fine if it’s just me, but if all my jingle ladies are around, I can’t quite keep up, which makes me wish I had a…
LG InstaView Refrigerator. Do I care about the knock twice to see inside gimmick? Nope. Smart in-built storage drawers? Nah. Craft Ice ball maker and chilled filtered water on demand? Now that’s love at frost sight.
Some fridges don’t require a fridge water connection point, but most fridges with ice and chilled water capabilities will require a water line to be installed behind your fridge by a licensed plumber.
