How do I Turn my Water Off at the Mains?
How do you turn your mains water supply off? Follow these steps:
- Find your water meter. For detached suburban homes, it will be in your front garden near the boundary line. For units, the water meter may be out the side or back of your group of units, there may be one meter or a bank of meters whereby you can isolate just your meter.
- Turn off the lever. On the water meter, look for a lever/handle next to the water meter at the front of your home. Turn the lever so that it is 90 degrees to the meter (or clockwise as far as it can go). You may need to use gloves or pliers if the handle is tight.
- Ensure the water supply is off. You can check your water supply has been shut off by releasing pressure from an outside tap and make sure there is no water flowing out.
- Call your plumber. Now is the time to call McCarthy Plumbing Group and rectify your burst pipe or water leak issue.
